August 2008

Ups and downs of the week.

Red Sox – Looking good lately, a few bad games notwithstanding. Their chances of taking the AL East are slim, but I’m more confident now that they’ll get the wildcard spot and then shine in post-season as they are able to do.

Hurricane Gustav - New Orleans in the crossshairs again.

Storm Track

Learning to hunt – Little guy gets a lesson in hunting.

Hunting lesson Better luck next time.

John McCain – I try to stay away from politics here, but his choice as VP candidate is so ridiculous that it’s terrifying. ‘Nuff said.

Ups and downs of the week.

US Olympic Team – Doing well, as always. Although I do wish they’d go back to amateur athletes only.

Olympic cheaters - When will they learn?

Red Sox – Looking pretty good in August. Still, they can’t gain ground if they don’t win when TB loses. And TB doesn’t lose very often.

Tropical Storm Fay – Almost a week after first making landfall in Florida, this storm is still dumping misery on that state. By the time it’s done, it will have touched every square inch of that state.

Fay

  Kitties – Cute bunch.
Momma cat Dinnertime Munch Showoff Naptime

Microsoft’s maps.live.com – Finally caught up with the University of Illinois with some decent hi-res images. They’re about a year old, but it’s better than what has been available until now.

Carl Yastrzemski had triple bypass surgery today. He’ll come out of it strong, because he’s that kind of guy. He was my idol when I was a kid. I loved the way he held his bat over his head at the plate and I used to try to emulate him. But he’s a one-of-a-kind. Pure class. Here’s wishing you a quick recovery and many healthy years ahead of you, Yaz.

Yaz

White Sangria. Ice, lots of fruit (I used lemon, lime, orange, and strawberry), a couple shots of peach schnapps, and fill with Riesling wine. Vary the sweetness by adding more or less schnapps. Very refreshing.  🙂

Thanks to Escobar’s for the recipe.

Ups and downs of the week.

Michael Phelps – Heck of a swimmer.

Jerome Corsi – Lying sack of manure. Why anyone would read his tripe, let alone believe it, is beyond me. Sad. Very sad.

Red Sox – Despite nearly blowing two ten point leads the other night, they’re on an offensive roll. Hope it keeps up.

Chinese women’s gymnastic team- They cannot be 16 years old. Someone’s been cooking the books.

Paul Byrd – Welcome to Boston, sir.

Just got my new Verizon XV6800 today. Very impressive PDA. I had it tethered to my laptop and was able to watch the Red Sox game on mlb.com. Clear, steady streaming video. I ran a broadband speed test and got 1911kbps download speed. Awesome.

XV6800

As with all PDA/Phone cameras, not the best low light pics, but if I want pics, I’ll use my FZ18.

Miss Cal

Ups and downs of the week.

Olympics opening ceremony – Awesome. Just awesome. Must have been incredible to be there. This is going to be a VERY tough act to follow.

John Edwards- Trying to avoid politics here, but I hate liars. Did  he learn nothing from Clinton?

 Jason Bay – Manny who?

Manny Ramirez – Was he trying to throw the Red Sox season to the benefit of his own wallet?

Katerina Emmons – First Gold of the 2008 Summer Olympics. Kudos, Katerina. Nice shooting.

Ups and downs of the week.

Jason ay – Welcome to oston. Nice contribution to tonight’s win.

Red Sox – Despite the win tonight, they’re looking like an also-ran team.

Manny Ramirez – Thanks for the memories, Manny. Best of luck with the new team.

Department of Homeland Security- They can now take your laptop with no suspicion of wrongdoing and keep it for as long as they want. What is this, the Soviet Union?
